Future European agriculture: sustainable, competitive and innovative

“The future agricultural policy should meet society demands and deliver public goods. For example in relation to food safety, climate change, environment, animal welfare and global competition,” stated Danish Minister for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Henrik Høegh, who hosted the conference.

 

The Danish minister emphasized the necessity of ensuring an internal marked based on competition and trade:

“We must be in harmony with the goals of Europe 2020, which underline the need for a well functioning internal market. This is why I am a strong supporter of a Common Agricultural Policy which secures a level playing field for all member states,” said Mr. Henrik Høegh.

Key speakers of the Conference was Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Dacian Cioloş, chair of European Parliament Committee for Agriculture and Rural development, Mr. Paolo De Castro, rapporteur on the European Parliament’s report on the future agricultural policy, Mr. George Lyon, as well as the German Minister of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection Mrs. Ilse Aigner, the Dutch Minister of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality Mrs. Gerda Verburg, the Polish Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Mr. Marek Sawicki and the French minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries Mr. Bruno Le Maire.
